Frequently asked questions
Practical answers to the questions we are most often asked before IRATA training.
BEFORE YOUR COURSE
The useful details, in one place
Course length, equipment, assessment, certification, payment and preparation.
How long is the course?
The Profixt course normally lasts 7 days: 6 training days and 1 independent assessment day. Groups of more than 8 people may require two assessment days.
Where is the IRATA certificate valid?
The IRATA certificate is valid in countries throughout the world.
How long after the assessment will I receive my certificate?
On the assessment day you receive a temporary certificate valid for 60 days. Within those two months, the original certificate, membership card and logbook are sent to you by post.
What equipment do I need to bring for the course?
Profixt provides all equipment required for the course. You are not required to bring any rope-access equipment.
How many IRATA levels are there?
IRATA technicians are classified into three levels. Everyone starts at Level 1. Progression to Levels 2 and 3 requires at least 12 months at the previous level and at least 1,000 qualifying work hours recorded in the logbook.
What happens if I fail the assessment?
After an unsuccessful assessment you may attend a subsequent course and assessment for a reduced fee. When a course has two assessment days and places are available on the second day, it may be possible to try again on that next assessment day.
Can I take an IRATA course with no previous rope-access or work-at-height experience?
Yes. Previous experience can be an advantage, although some established habits may need to be adjusted. In either case, our experienced instructors will train and prepare you for the assessment and the work that follows.
Can I attend only the assessment?
No. Under IRATA requirements, before attending an assessment you must have completed at least 4 training days.
Can I pay after I complete the course?
No. Course participation requires payment in advance.
Can I come for additional practice?
For our clients, we always offer free additional training and refresher practice. You are always welcome back for good coffee and more practice!
What shoes should I wear?
Comfortable closed shoes are required; sandals are not suitable. Trainers are a good example.
